Many people have wondered if President Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, would be a dictator if elected again. The former President is currently still trying to overturn the results of the recent 2020 election of Joe Biden. His actions are straight out of the handbook of an authoritarian leader. We should be aware of the signs of an autocracy. As we watch our country slide into authoritarianism, it is crucial to understand what we're up against.
The 75-year-old real estate developer has praised strongmen and dictators in the past. His multi-million-dollar business interests in many countries have led him to use such words as "dictator" and "dominate," which indicate that Trump is an autocrat personality type. The goal of a dictatorial person is to gain power and control the institutions of governance.
If former President Trump wins the election, he will likely be re-elected in 2024. But while he won't win the popular vote, he has a decent chance of winning the election, particularly with the help of the GOP's newly instituted voting laws. But, of course, it has happened twice before, so a second Trump term could be far more dangerous. Again, however, the question of legitimacy and the rule of law is an important one.
While the United States is a constitutional republic with a three-branch government and a built-in check and balances system, it is essential to note that the former President of the United States is an authoritarian who admires and emulates foreign strongmen. Such a regime has a history of dismantling democratic institutions, amassing executive power, and repudiating American values. If the United States cannot prevent Trump from being elected, will we have a dangerous situation or not?
While Trump has been accused of being an authoritarian, he has also been compared to Hitler. The German right underestimated Hitler's fanaticism and failed to foresee the results of his total war and industrial-scale genocide. The same fate may be in store for Trump. There is no reason for a president to be a dictator unless the public wants it to be.
Those who have studied fascism point out that Trump is simply following the fascistic playbook of Adolf Hitler, the "Mein Kampf," and ideas of Adolf's buddy Benito Mussolini the "Duce," the leader of the Italian National Fascist Party in 1921. And they conclude that those dictators used political violence to achieve their goals, not democracy. Moreover, they manipulated the political process to ensure they could get away with it. Fortunately, after being responsible for the worst mayhem in human history, it did not end well for both of them.
America used to be under Tyranny by the Britts. The result was a revolution, the American war 1775-1783. In 1776 the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776; the 13 American colonies severed their political connections to Great Britain. And on April 30, 1789, George Washington, standing on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York, took his oath of office as the first President of the United States. It worked well for us; let's protect America from autocrats and dictators. "God Bless America."
