JFTM:
Trump may win a second term. His campaign plans to expand executive powers, leading to legal battles and conflicts with Congress.
This plan has numerous new policies to drastically reshape America's law enforcement, trade, social safety nets, and employment protections. One notably alarming proposal is the reinstatement of an executive order known as Schedule F, which would convert all federal employees involved with policy-making into at-will positions, eliminating employment protections for these positions and providing presidents with an easier way to dismiss them.
If implemented, the action above would constitute one of the most meaningful transformations in contemporary American history concerning a president and their civil service workforce. Although several analogous proposals are extant, this particular initiative stands out as the most ambitious.
Several measures have been scheduled for implementation in the year 2024. These include a reinstatement of the Muslim ban, increased tariffs applicable to all imported goods, and construction of tent cities on federal land to house immigrants seeking asylum. While the legality of these plans may be questionable, their potential impact is significant enough to warrant concern.
It is important to note that implementing such measures could result in serious ramifications. As such, any such plans must be carefully considered and evaluated before being put into action.
An integral component of Trump's plan would involve purging the federal workforce of anyone deemed disloyal. This former president has long bemoaned a deep state conspiracy composed of career civil servants he sees conspiring against him; thus, he advocates that loyalists be appointed instead. During his first term, he used threats of firing officials who did not adhere to his agenda to coerce those reluctant to follow through with some of his more radical proposals into supporting it.
One of the most concerning plans proposed by Trump is the establishment of tent cities like Internment and Concentration Camps along the border, where immigrants would be held. At the same time, their asylum cases are being processed. Charlie Kirk, a senior advisor to Trump's campaign and the head of the Turning Point USA college campus activist network has advocated for this idea.
If the president were to carry through on such a plan, it would violate existing federal laws about migrants' right to due process and fair treatment, creating an inhumane environment where families might spend years living and working under similar cramped conditions that ICE already uses for detainees in processing centers. Furthermore, such an operation would expose the federal government to legal liability due to any unlawful detentions or deaths while in custody; immigrant advocates, human rights organizations, and other groups could file lawsuits challenging its legality against this policy against legal liability claims filed by immigrant advocates against Justice Department against any cases initiated against this policy by being brought by groups who could challenge its legality from legal viewpoints as ICE has used.
