If you're planning to fly your U.S. flag on July 4th, you need to know a few rules to do so correctly. First, ensure you're aware of the flag code, a federal law that provides guidelines for flying the flag. Unlike many state flag codes, the flag code doesn't have specific enforcement mechanisms, and most rules are advisory. Therefore, they shouldn't be broken. Still, if you want to show respect for the country in which you're flying the flag, you should follow the code.

First, ensure you don't touch the flag while it's flying. Never allow the flag to touch anything below it, whether it's the ground or a person. You should avoid flying the flag upside down, except in an emergency. Also, never use the flag as a costume, sportswear, or drapery. Make sure that you salute it when you're done. Also, don't use the flag for any kind of advertising or promotional purpose. If you're planning to use your flag for these events, don't print anything with the American flag.

The American flag was designed by Francis Hopkinson, a naval flag designer and signer of the Declaration of Independence. If you're a proud American, you should follow the flag etiquette. For example, it's essential always to raise and lower the flag "briskly" and to do so before other flags. Also, don't fold it in half and hang it from a tree; don't let the flag touch the ground, pavement, or water. Lastly, don't tie it back or mark it in any way.

We just want to celebrate a Holiday, have a barbecue, drink, watch fireworks, and have a freaking good time with the family and friends, is that so hard to do?
